Introducing children to the World of Robotics.... At Motoman we believe that an interest in science and engineering by the young is crucial to our future. After all, the future of UK manufacturing lies in the hands of today's school children who will become tomorrow's scientists, engineers and industrialists. We were therefore delighted to be asked to support Unipart Eberspacher Exhaust Systems (UEES) by supplying a robot to demonstrate at the Imagineering Fair.
The Imagineering Fair is organised each year by the Imagineering Foundation, and is part of a major initiative designed to introduce 8-16 year olds to the fascinating world of engineering and manufacturing through fun, hands-on activities. With the use of the Motoman robot handling and pouring cups and bottles of water UEES were able to make quite a splash, attracting large audiences and inspiring the minds of the next generation. For the robot demonstration UEES were ably assisted by Scitech, an organisation with whom Motoman has been working for over a year to promote science and technology to the young. Scitech's aim is to drive science and technology forward through education. Their activities include lectures and holiday schools that are designed to bring science, technology and children together in a way that promotes fun and enthusiasm at the same time as promoting learning and a hunger for learning.
We fully support Scitech's aims and are pleased to have granted Scitech free use of an SV3X robot and mini-XRC controller which, for ease of portability, we have built into a bespoke pallet based unit for Scitech's use. The robot has already been capturing childrens imagination at Scitech lectures and holiday schools in the UK and the Netherlands.
